Why Don't More Athletes Create Their Own Sunglass Line?

Let’s skip the small talk,

The athletes that have started their own sunglass lines makes me wonder why more don’t do it. They’re stylish, easy to get into retail, and have explosive marketing potential.

There are also have been tangible results that should get more brands and athletes excited. Hmm.

Here are some examples of why I feel strongly about this 😎

SPOTLIGHT
1. Thiem View
2. Prime Time x Blenders
3. Mahomes x Oakley

We need to start off with my favorite pair of athletes shades on the market…

The 2020 U.S Open Champion may be retired, but his legacy will live on as his sunglasses are not only stylish, but sustainable. Dominic Thiem’s Thiem View sunglasses are biodegradable to complement Domi’s love for the planet.

I interviewed Domi 10 months ago for Essentially Sports and he mentioned the line consistently gets sold out. The episode can be seen here.

The Blenders x Deion Sanders sunglass line is a match made in heaven. Coach Prime sports the shades with pride, swagger, and is getting compensated accordingly.

The first day the partnership was announced, Blenders sold $1.2 million in pre-orders…

I have no doubt Shedeur could follow suit and do the same.

MAHOMES MANIA
MAHOMES X OAKLEY IS A HIT 😎

Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ sunglasses made with Oakley may be the most recognizable sunglass line in sports.

While I do not have quantifiable evidence in this particular example to support this, every football and baseball field in America has at least one pair of Mahomes shades running around.

I think Travis Kelce could do the same and see a lot of success.

So I’m shocked we haven’t seen NBA players like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander launch their own eyewear…

It seems like a golden opportunity sitting on a platter here. Athletes set the trend. We see it with shoes, podcasts, giant ass bell bottom jeans on Instagram and in the tunnels before games 👎… but we’re missing something here.

Who out there is helping athletes make their own pair of shades?
